ehekic said: okay. having reached asoiaf book 3, could you rec me a nice fantasy novel to read when i finish that's set in a society that respects women as much as asoiaf society disrespects them? just as, like, a palate cleanser...
if you haven’t read them, A Great and Terrible Beauty (+ Rebel Angels and The Sweet Far Thing) is reallllly fantastic. it’s not fantasy in the same like alternate-world kind of way but there’s magic & fun times. His Dark Materials is obv amazing.
EDIT that the libba bray trilogy society doesn’t treat them particularly well i guess? they’re still confined a lot by very victorian gender roles etc but there’s no violence going on and just hh it’s a good read
other than those which you probably already thought of… nope, unfortunately i can’t. the more popular fantasy novels are really awful with women, which sucks, compounded with the fact that i don’t actually read that much fantasy (the amount of people reccing it to me that it took to finally get me to even read asoiaf is truly stunning) so i’m not great at reccing in this area… sorry :/
however someone else made this list when dissatisfaction about the hunger games came to a peak
anyone else have suggestions?
